I open the door to a ghost - or at least, to one I thought long dead.
Morgan. It's my first thought. I itch for the feel of my sword in my hand, so that I can bury it in the skull of this impostor. Surely even Morgan doesn't think me such a fool...!?
Then the phantom speaks.
"I bring a message from the queen. Can I come in and speak to you?”
I consider. If it is Inari, it is rude to keep her waiting in the hallway. If not -
"Come in, but keep your hands by your sides."
She enters, keeping her hands in sight. I close the door and give her a long hard look, magically as well as mundanely. She certainly appears to be the real Inari, but - "If you are truly Inari Nightblade, tell me something only she would know."
The voice is dry. "I could - but then I'd have to kill you."
"Inari!" I forget myself, lunge forward and throw my arms about her. A second later, I regain my sanity and quickly step back. A good thing she's not easily offended. She had time to snap my neck or slit my throat ten times over.
