Rage flows hot through my veins as I slew the hearse to a stop alongside the alley entrance. If they have hurt her, they shall all die, every one of them, and die horribly. Nemesis is in my hands, crackling with green witchfire when I burst through the door.

My eyes are drawn to him as if magnetized. "NEKRON!," I roar, "how came you here, wretch, and why? Speak, dog, or I spit you like a fowl!"

He is on his feet before the echoes of my words have died, the sword I gave him already in his hand. "I had nothing to do with this, old man," he spits, "but if you've come to spill some blood, I'm your man." His skin goes white, his eyes glow blood-red; fangs gleam with a savage smile as he places himself on guard.

Our blades clash like Jove's lightning hurled from the angry heavens. He is as fast as I remember, and he has kept in practice. More than once I am forced to retreat as his blade makes shift to pierce my defense. Nemesis is like a living thing as I go on the offense, a serpent of steel seeking to pierce his reeking heart as I should have so many years ago.

"SORCERER!" The giant gargoyle called Obsidian swoops down between us with a voice of thunder. He clasps a blade in either hand, stopping the duel till one of us can break free. Blood drips from both hands, yet he tightens his grip.

"Magnus," he hisses between clenched teeth. "Don't do this. Think of Alise, you damned fool!"

"What does he know of Alise?," I snarl, shooting a venomous glance at the vampire.

"He is her friend!" - the gargoyle's eyes glow with his own fury - "as you might have learned if you hadn't burst in here like the wrath of God. Sit down and shut up, sorcerer, and we'll tell you all we know."

His grip is steady as he looks over his shoulder at Nekron. "Nick, please - stand down. He won't stop if you don't. I promise you, he'll have to kill me to get to you."

Without a word, the vampire's blade vanishes. A moment later, he is seemingly as human as any here.

My heart is still hammering in my chest, but my voice is level. "Tell me everything."
