Star watched Laila disappear and tears filled her eyes. “She cant be serious. She is treated like a slave and no one has slaves anymore... its... its... barbaric...”
Alise had just walked up to the group, carrying Tara, Gracie was with her papan and Tomas was being carried around on Guunnars shoulders, much to his delight. “Whats barbaric?”
Star quietly explains to Alise what Laila had told them and how bad her hands looked.
Handing Tara to Star Alise frowns and says 'You are right, that is barbaric. I dont understand. Nicholas doesnt have a slave or a servant... and he has been a vampire a long time I think.”
Ramji's eyes flash in anger at the thoughts running through his mind. “She is from Greece and it is the custom on the island she is from. She cannot leave him for fear of what will happen to her family. He thinks it makes him look more aristocratic so he will not release her...”
A tear slips down Stars cheek, “I want to help her, but I dont know how....”
Alise hugs her, not sure what to say.
Tara reaches for her tante Star and wraps her little arms around Stars neck when she takes her. She feels the sadness in Star and leans over and gives her a wet open mouthed kiss on the cheek. Star laughs and plants kisses on the little girls neck.
“Thank you sweet one..”
Erik pulls Star close and kisses the top of her head.
