I slowly open my eyes, letting them adjust to the dimly lit room. Star isn't in bed and the last I remember, we curled up together after letting Lobo and Wolf in. I stretch my hand across the empty space and my fingers come in contact with a wet nose near the edge of the bed.
The wolves are still in their spot....
Mya slowly flits back to her spot near the small tree Keon gave Star. She yawns daintily and pulls the hankie over her, settling back in.
Star must be up with Mera, not much else wakes Mya....
Almost silently Star enters the room with Mera. I smile, admiring the curves and expanse of skin not covered by her long hair. Her hair looks silver in the moonlight and tousled from our earlier lovemaking. She leans over to put Mera in the cradle and hesitates, standing up straight again and looking over at the bed.
“Princess, bring her to bed with you if that's what you want. It's fine...” My voice is soft so as not to startle Star or the baby.
“Are you sure? I don't know... I don't want her to fall...”
“Its fine, really. She won't fall" - I grin - "and if she does, Wolf and Lobo are right there for her to land on.”
She nods and returns to bed, spooning against me, Mera on her other side. “I can't put her between us, you might squish her...” She looks back at me, a teasing smile on her face.
“I would not...why would you think that? Have I ever squished you?”
The easy banter goes back and forth for a few minutes until Star starts to yawn.
“Sofa , minn dýrmætur sjálfur...”* and I pull the covers up, tucking us all in for the night.
*Sleep, my precious ones
