There is a sound, like the grinding of stone.

Stoney slips his hand beneath Alise's good one. Her hand is still too hot, even against his stone.

Je'taime, mon amour. He gently strokes her mind, soothing her into deeper sleep. I am here mon Alli. I am here.

Closing his eyes slowly, Stoney quits fighting the change and shares her dreams, imposing himself between her and the phantoms that would disturb her sleep. He sends her a song, one he sang to her in the beginning.

Stars shining bright above you
night breezes seem to whisper
I love you
Birds singin' in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me.

Say "nighty night" and kiss me
just hold me tight and tell me
you'll miss me.
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me.
Stars fading but I linger on
dear
still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger til dawn
dear

He feels Rowan's eyes staring at him. A small smile curves his canine mouth. All things would be alright. He had his Chaton home where she belonged. Alise was sleeping deeply and quietly. He just startled a Child of The Goddess. He rested his head on his arm, settling his wings in a shower of stone dust. The grinding stops and the cottage becomes quiet as the sun climbs higher, shut out by the shutters and curtain.
