Panther runs through the night, never slowing its pace until she senses the viper close by and the one her mistress has asked her to find. She slows her pace when she sees the gargoyle lift Alise out of the water. When the wolf attacks, panther growls but sensing that Alise needs her, she goes to her. She sniffs and licks her face, trying to wake her up. She can feel Alise shivering with cold and panther lays next to her in an attempt to warm her and protect her from the fight. Panther tries to hide Alise from the wolf with her body, the dark fur blending into the night.

Alise tries to wake up, her mind feels heavy and confused. She can feel panther next to her and wraps an arm around her, hanging on to the glossy black fur.
