Tori had called in for the pizza. The Crows went, with two other shifters. It wasn't until the group had come back that it dawned on her that Wish and Pike were missing. One of the Crows gives her a puzzled stare when she asks about them.
"They stayed. Wait for the Star."
The others nod, as if it is the only answer. The Gargoyle looks at Tannr. He shrugs. A young girl hangs upside down for a moment, then drops to her feet beside them, snagging another slice and a soda.
"They aren't like us Tor." She swallows and looks around. "We are mortal... real." She waves a grimy hand at the others. "They watched over us when Grace wasn't here, when you wasn't."
The girl swallows a bite, then hops up to sit on a crate. When she is settled, she watches Tannr with curious eyes. "I like him. He smells right." Someone throws a shoe at her and she grins.
There is a yip from the group and a mere slip of boy darts toward the boxes. He looks up at Tori and points at her slice. She tells him there is plenty, but he looks at the boxes, then points to her slice again, cocking his head.
The girl jumps down and moves to the boxes. She pulls out a slice of pineapple and ham, handing it to him. "He wants what you have. He has no... voice, no words." She shakes her head as he scurries off into the shadows. She grins, displaying pointed teeth. "We owe you Tor. You are one of us, yet... not. You are like Pike and Wish. Magic walking. He," She points at Tannr, "is like us."
She swallows the last of her own pizza and tucks her soda into the waist of her pants. She looks up at the overhead beams and judges the distance. Moments later she is among the higher beams. She calls down to Tori and Tannr.
"We hear the stories. We see the truth. I am watching from the Gargoyle's roost." She looks at Tori and smiles, then glances over the group below her. "Who else has first watch?"
