I am catching up on my emails when the violin solo from Danse Macabre begins to play. Biting back an imprecation, I find my cell phone and look to see who it is. The answer is so agreeable that I immediately answer.

"Lady Alise! So good to hear from you! What service may I render you this night?"

In a few words, Alise explains that she wishes to render their wards penetrable to some new people, one of whom is to be their nanny. The other, I am told, is one of Herne's Riders, who is paying court to their new employee. It is a bit much to take in, but I agree to attend on them upon the morrow and leave a reminder in my cell - which will doubtless call forth another imprecation whenever it sounds.
