Comfortably ensconced in my secluded corner, wrapped in shadows I have summoned to conceal me, I watch the crowd grow. Certain it is that I have never seen the Tavern so crowded… I see many unfamiliar faces tonight. How many, I wonder, will know of me - and how many will grant me their trust?

No matter. I do what I must, let others do as they will.

Stepping from the shadows, I move to the stage and clap my hands sharply, commanding attention. Speech slows and ends and many eyes are drawn to me while I wait for silence.

"Good evening, all. Would that the reason for this meeting were not so dire, but things are as they are. We can but keep to the course before us, and hope to end it with courage and with dignity.

Tonight I have asked two gentlemen known well to you all to speak to us about a peril that we face; to show us the face of our enemy, his strengths and weaknesses, and to answer any questions you might have. Then without further ado, I give you Messrs Sweeney and Mole."
