Alise wipes her eyes, unbraids her hair and steps into the warm spray of the shower. She didnt know why she told Stoney she needed to wash her hair first. He knew her so well, he would see right through her excuse. She just wanted to compose herself, hating for Stoney to see her cry. As she lathers her hair she feels Stoney reaching for her mind, his thoughts loving and comforting.

She starts to relax in the warm water and sends teasing thoughts to her husband. As she rinses the last of the soap from her hair she feels a sudden heaviness in her belly, as if the baby dropped. Her arms wrap around her middle and then the ache in her back turns into excruciating pain. She gasps as her knees give way and she can see that her water has broken. She gasps again with another back pain and then Stoney is with her, lifting her gently out of the shower.

“Chaton... I told you we should call Rowan. Let me get you settled and I will call her.”

“Non, Remi, there is no time. I think the baby is coming now....”

Alise groans as Stoney settles her into the pillows he placed on the floor for her. He can feel her starting to push and tries to force the panic from his mind. It would not help Alise if she thought he was afraid.
